LOGO DESIGN
Background
The Online Student is an e-learning resource that combines the 1-to-1 learning experience of personal tutoring with mass amounts of educational content. The website is aimed at providing an enhanced learning experience which puts a direct focus the user whilst still allowing for flexibility, connecting both tutor and tutee and equipping them both with all the necessary resources.
Insight
When learning about The Online Student, we were excited at the prospect of designing a logo to give them a powerful identity in a crowded marketplace.
What stood out the most about The Online Student was the online platform that allows tutoring to occur in real time, with access to all of the relevant tools for both tutors and students. Combining this aspect with the online accessibility was key to making the logo and branding stand out. Using a square graduation cap and replacing the tassel with a computer mouse proved a great way of visualising these elements of the company. From playing around with the positioning and ratio of the text, we made the name a central part of the logo, allowing the brand to be easily recognised.
When researching competitors, the dreary style of academic logos and colours didn’t reflect what The Online Student stands for. Instead, we wanted the colours to be fun and stand out from the crowd, whilst also remaining professional.
Execution
Exploring various colour palettes and inversions, we narrowed down the selection to the following few key styles. We also provided a social-friendly logo containing just the 'O', allowing the brand to be communicated in dimensions that would otherwise make the logo illegible:

The final version of the logo, as chosen by the client, is shown above. We are delighted to have created a logo that our client is thrilled with, and that allows The Online Student to standout in the tutor-sphere. This work would have been impossible without our dedicated and outstanding junior designer, Sophie Lewis. We wish The Online Student all the best as it grows into the next big thing in online learning.
